Laser Gum treatment

Laser gum treatment (also called Laser Periodontal Therapy / Laser Gum Surgery) is a modern dental procedure used to treat gum disease (gingivitis, periodontitis) and related gum issues. It uses laser light rather than or in addition to traditional tools (scalpel, etc.) to remove diseased tissue, kill bacteria, and encourage healing.

Benefits vs Drawbacks

Benefits:

• Less invasive (fewer cuts, no or fewer incisions, less use of scalpels) → less bleeding and less trauma.
• Reduced pain and swelling during and after the procedure. Faster healing.
• Better precision: laser can target diseased tissue while preserving healthy tissue.
• Sterilization / killing of bacteria better than mechanical alone, which helps reduce chances of recurrence.

Drawbacks / Limitations:

• Not all cases of severe gum disease can be fully treated by laser alone; sometimes traditional surgery is still needed.
• Cost tends to be higher because of laser equipment and expertise required.
• Requires a dentist who’s trained in laser periodontal therapy.
